Fresh Dog Food
Delias was born out of our slightly obsessive love for pets. Our house is currently run by three cats and two Corgis — Mouse and Porky — and we just pay the bills.
We brought Mouse and Porky home when they were about 10 weeks old, and life has never been the same. Mouse came to us a little chunky with some mild allergy drama — scratching, paw biting, the usual diva behavior. But Porky? Porky came in like a full-blown medical mystery.
She barely ate and when she did eat, she couldn’t keep anything down. She was underweight, lethargic, and seemed personally offended by most dog food. At the time, our daughter worked for a veterinarian, and Porky became such a regular at the clinic she probably should’ve had her own parking spot. Some weeks she was there more than once. Exams, blood work, more exams… and still no answers.
The vet suggested trying different food. So, we did what any loving pet parents would do — we bought the expensive, highly rated, “premium” brands from the grocery store. The kind with beautiful packaging and words like holistic and natural splashed across the bag. You’d absolutely recognize the names.
Spoiler alert: Porky was not impressed.
Nothing helped. Some foods did absolutely nothing. Others made her symptoms worse. Meanwhile, we were slowly coming to terms with the heartbreaking idea that maybe she was just going to be “that dog” — always sick, always struggling.
Then our vet gave us a little hope: try fresh food.
So, we went full research mode. We read everything we could about canine nutrition. We consulted with a veterinary nutritionist. We learned more about dog food than we ever thought possible. And finally, we created a fully balanced fresh dog food recipe in our own kitchen.
And guess what?
Porky started eating. And keeping it down. Every meal. Mouse dropped two pounds. Their energy shot up. Their coats were shinier. The shedding slowed down. They were thriving — not just surviving. And they were even leaving us fewer presents in the yard.
We told some friends about our success, and they wanted in. Their dogs started seeing improvements too. Then came the question we never expected: “Will you sell it to us?”
Starting a business was not on our bingo card. This all began because one stubborn little Corgi refused to eat kibble. But once we saw the difference it made — not just for our dogs, but for others — it felt obvious.
And that’s how Delias began: out of love, desperation, a lot of research… and one very sick little Corgi.
Porky misses seeing her vet friend every week, but we all have to make sacrifices in life
